A Very Long Day of multiple Large Mountain Passes

We left nice and early as we knew that we had a very good but challenging day ahead of us. We rode into Fussen and saw more nice scenery but it was a busy Monday morning with more traffic than  expected as we crossed into Austria.

We first hit the Fern Pass, again more traffic but good alpine views and a sign of what we had to come.

We stopped in Imst to check that the Timmelsjoch pass was reopened after an earlier rockfall, luckily it was so we stuck to the original route. We paid the €17 toll for the pass and drove through some incredibly snowy roads and threw snowballs at each other at 2500m. It was busy but a great ride up. Coming down we crossed into Italy, free-flowing roads, sunshine and some of the best riding I have ever done.

Coming down we immediately went back up the Passo Geovo which was incredible. Next was Passo Pennes which was less scenic but another incredible ride. We felt tired at this point (how much adrenaline can you take) and stopped for water and snacks before stopping for fuel and lunch in Ponticino. While Leon and Konrad were stocking up on supplies, I noticed that my front tyre was flat.

I managed to get the front wheel off and we were directed toward a tyre shop that was just up the road. Konrad took me, my front wheel and spare tube to the garage where a very helpful man swapped my inner tube and rebalanced the wheel. We then rode back to the bikez refitted the wheel and were back on the road within 2 hours.

We next hit Collalbo via a twisty road to Val Gardena. To finish off we did passo Sella which took us onto our current campsite in Canazei where we plan to stay the next few nights (although Konrand is going mountaineering tomorrow with his crampons).

We went for a pizza and some beers in a local restaurant which was perfect given our late arrival. We caught the end of the Austria v France match and collapsed exhausted.

Another very long day with lots of stunning views and a fair share of adventure. Hopefully no more mechanical problems from now on. We made it to our destination which is the main thing. Tomorrow we give Konrad a lift half way up a mountain and then me and Leon can relax.
